Welcome to Atmospheric Dynamics @ St Andrews. We investigate the large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and their role in weather and climate variability, predictability and change, with a particular focus on the extratropics and subseasonal-to-seasonal timescales.

Research interests include stratosphere–troposphere coupling, sudden stratospheric warmings, jet streams, weather regimes, annular modes, teleconnections, extreme events, subseasonal-to-seasonal prediction, large ensembles and model biases. Explore our Publications for more information.

On this website you can also find operational subseasonal forecasts based on our research of weather regimes and the stratospheric polar vortex.
